Resurrection is a Particular Church!

Last night (Sunday, March 6, 2011) Resurrection Presbyterian Church as "particularized" at a worship service conducted by a commission of Missouri Presbytery.  Over 300 people showed their support for Resurrection's ministry by attending the service.  Pastor Chris Smith was installed as the Pastor.  Elders and deacons were ordained and installed.  The officers and members of Resurrection were prayed for, charged, and blessed by ministers and elders from Missouri presbytery, the broader PCA, and the Lutheran church!

Maybe best of all, after the service we were all treated to an amazing feast, the highlight of which was roast pork cooked by the guys at Iron Barley.  The members of Resurrection worked hard to make this a great night.  Thank you!

Missouri Presbytery Clears Pastor Meyers of Allegations

Back in April 2010, Missouri Presbytery received a letter alleging that Pastor Meyers was teaching unorthodox doctrine.  The presbytery formed a committee to investigate the charges.  The recommendations of that committee were presented to the presbytery on January 8th.  The presbytery voted to adopt all of the recommendations of the committee and so cleared Pastor Meyers of all of the charges.  You may read the entire report here (1.3 MB pdf file), including 111 pages of Pastor Meyers's answers to the committee's questions.

Lessons & Carols Christmas Service 2010

We celebrated our 16th annual Lessons & Carols Christmas service on Sunday evening December 18th.  This service as been a high point in our church year worship services at Providence for many years.  Our choir director Mr. Bill Hoover has been very faithful in serving our congregation with the finest Christmas music every year.  This year was no different.  The adult and children choirs performed wonderfully, assisting the congregation in meditating on the meaning of Advent and Christmas.  You can enjoy images and video of the service here.

Memorial Service for Tim Werkema

I am so sorry to report that our brother in Christ Tim Werkema died on Tuesday, September 14th.  There was an explosion in his home and he was killed in the blast.  The police are still investigating the causes, but as soon as I learn more I will pass that news on to you all.

Tim was a dear friend of mine.  For many years we've shared common interests–photography and shooting, mostly.  The Sunday before last I spent about 5 hours with him shooting at the range and enjoying dinner together afterwards.  I will miss Tim.

He has also meant a great deal to our congregation.  His selfless service as a deacon was exemplary.  He was a faithful choir member and assistant to Bill Hoover.  His sacrificial ministry of music with our children, in the choir, and special events was unique. You could always count on Tim to glorify a worship service with his clarinet, flute, etc.  He also wrote scores of descants that our choir used to bolster our congregation's hymn singing

We will hold a memorial service for Tim Werkema this Sunday (Sept 19) at Providence at 5 PM.   Immediately afterwards there will be a fellowship meal downstairs for the Werkema family, friends, and members of Providence.  If you can help with the preparation, bringing food, or cleanup afterwards, please contact Barb Hoover or Joanie Harris.

There will also be a time of visitation at the church from 3:30 - 4:30 PM.
